There are dozens of ways to minister to the needs of others. Below are three volunteer highlights, which are important and urgently needed.

Church Office Helpers

We’re currently looking for front desk volunteers–men or women– to fill two shifts: Mondays 9:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.  and/or Wednesdays 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Duties include answering the phone, greeting visitors, stuffing envelopes, etc. We provide training. This is great opportunity to support our staff, clergy, and parishioners.  Volunteer one day a week or a one day a month, we’re flexible!

A-SPAN Delivery Drivers/Servers

One Wednesday a month, typically the second Wednesday of the month, a group of St. Mary’s parishioner volunteers gather in St. Mary’s kitchen at 9:30 a.m. to make 100+ bagged meals for the Arlington Street People’s Assistance Network (A-SPAN).  Later that same Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., we need a couple parishioner volunteers to help deliver these bagged meals to the A-SPAN serving location at Oakland Park, N. Oakland Street & N. 9th Street, Arlington (near the Virginia Square metro station). Volunteers typically work in pairs and use St. Mary’s van to deliver the food. This a great opportunity to provide direct assistance to the homeless in our midst and the time commitment is just 60-90 minutes once a month. The next St. Mary’s delivery is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 13th. We meet at St. Mary’s at 5:30 p.m.

Sunday School Teachers

We are looking for 1st-grade and 2nd-grade teachers for the upcoming 2017-2018 Sunday School Year. Lesson plans, books, craft materials and training are available to help you get started. Sunday school runs from 10:15 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Sunday beginning the second week of September through May. There is a two-week break from the classes at Christmas.

We always team-teach, so you will not have to go it alone. This is a great way to support all our children’s spiritual formation, and you may learn a few things yourself! Watch the video below to learn more.
