St. Mary’s 2019 Parish Retreat Weekend: June 7-9, 2019
About a two‐hour drive from Arlington, Shrine Mont is a conference and retreat center of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia. Shrine Mont is located in Orkney Springs, a serene little town nestled at the foot of Great North Mountain in the Shenandoah Valley.
Shrine Mont is a place where we connect as a community and finally have time to meet each other, laugh together, and share stories – conversations that aren’t easily had in our hectic daily lives. Shrine Mont is a place where kids run and play, memories are made, and we celebrate being part of the family of God.
The weekend begins with Friday afternoon fellowship on the porch, dinner, and our traditional Friday evening BONFIRE, ending with Compline at the Shrine. We continue on Saturday with programs for adults on Saturday morning and separate activities for children, a lazy Saturday afternoon to do your own thing or play kickball, fish, or visit the swimming pool, our famous (infamous) Saturday night event. Sunday starts with a morning program, Holy Eucharist at the outdoor Cathedral Shrine of the Transfiguration, and the weekend concludes with a homestyle Sunday lunch.
The Reverend Andrew Terry will serve as our featured speaker during our Pentecost-themed weekend. Fr. Terry was ordained a priest in 2012, following two years as a seminarian at St. Mary’s. Now living in Richmond, Virginia, with his wife Tiffany and son Langston, Fr. Terry serves as the Vicar of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and Executive Director of RE:work RICHMOND, an employment initiative in Richmond’s East End. Prior to this, Fr. Andrew was a resident at Richmond Hill, serving in pastoral leadership, where spiritual direction and retreat leadership were important parts of the ministry. Andrew holds a BA in Religious Studies from the College of William and Mary and an MDiv from Virginia Theological Seminary.
The Shrine Mont retreat facility is owned and operated by the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia. Lodging is in a quaint old hotel and nearby cottages, all with private baths. Meals are served in the large dining room of Virginia House, the main conference facility. Tips are appreciated by the dining room staff. Please note that housing is assigned on a first-come and first-served basis. If you require special accommodations for health and safety reasons, please indicate your needs in the registration form.
