FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a pledge?
A pledge is a written commitment of what you or your family agree to give financially to St. Mary’s over the coming calendar year.
Why do we pledge?
To personally respond to God’s generosity to each of us, we are all called to be stewards and thereby share a portion of our time, talent, and treasure. A pledge addresses the need to share a portion of your treasure.
How is my annual pledge put to use?
St. Mary’s Vestry sets an annual operating budget with 75 percent covering clergy and staff salaries, building maintenance, utilities, and parish needs, and 25 percent dedicated to Outreach, which includes organizations caring for the poor, abused, sick and at-risk populations in Arlington and around the world.
Who sees my pledge?
For accounting purposes, St. Mary’s Interim Finance Manager Janet Tasker, tracks annual pledge cards and individual pledge payments. St. Mary’s Vestry and Finance Committee are provided with total pledge numbers; no individual donors are identified. St. Mary’s respects parishioners need for financial privacy and pledge discretion and will supply envelopes for those who pay towards their pledge with cash or check. Additionally, St. Mary’s also offers a variety of secure electronic payment options.
