Council Canceled for This Week, Rescheduled to March 5
Members of the 221st Annual Council of the Diocese:
The probability continues to grow for a major snowstorm at the end of the week, with possible blizzard conditions, for much of our Diocese. With or without a declaration by the governor of a state of emergency, it’s abundantly clear that the predicted travel disruptions, power outages and high winds pose far too great a risk. Any course of action that would encourage the members of our Diocese to venture out on roads under these conditions is simply unacceptable.
For these reasons, we have decided to cancel all Council sessions in Reston this week. We will instead hold a one-day Council, tentatively scheduled for Saturday, March 5, at Church of the Epiphany in Herndon. Our schedule for the day probably will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Please note that it is your responsibility to cancel your room reservations at the Hyatt Regency. The cancellation deadline for Thursday night rooms is NOON on Thursday. For Friday night, 3 p.m. on Thursday is the deadline. Here’s the link or you may cancel your reservation by calling the Hyatt Reston at 1-703-709-1234 or Hyatt Reservation Assistance at 1-888-591-1234.
At our meeting at Epiphany, we will conduct our Annual Council business, including discussion and approval of the budget, as well as consideration of resolutions and canonical/constitutional changes. Bishop Johnston will deliver his Pastoral Address. We also will hear from Bishops Goff and Gulick. We will be in touch within the next few days on financial matters related to this rescheduling, including your registration fees.
As the storm approaches, we pray that you will be safe and warm.
See you at Epiphany!
