Benjamin Britten Ceremony of Carols to be performed by St. Mary’s Choristers

Arlington, VA, 12/16/15. — Join us Sunday, December 20 at 7:30 p.m. for St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Choristers  annual performance of Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols accompanied by harp, in this delightful reimagining of medieval carols. The Men of St. Mary’s Schola, an a cappella chant group, offer sung prayers for the short evening service of Compline.

“Our annual tradition of singing Benjamin Britten’s charming Ceremony of Carols communicates the wonder and joy of the Christ Child in an exuberant and profound way,” says St. Mary’s Minister of Music, Dr. Gregory Hooker. St. Mary’s choristers range in age from 6 to 85 and are singers at all skill levels. Ceremony and Carols consists of eleven movements. The piece was written in 1942 while Britten was at sea, going from the United States to England.

Through the music ministry at St. Mary’s, we glorify God with our lips and in our lives, proclaiming the Word of God through music while offering opportunities for community and service as well as personal development. St. Mary’s is located at 2609 N. Glebe Road. The church parking lot is located at N. Glebe Road and N. 26th Street (entrance on N. 26th).

St. Mary’s is a vibrant community that seeks to worship Christ, love our neighbors, and serve the poor in our midst.  St. Mary’s has four core values  that inform who we are as a community of faith.  Worship of the risen Christ forms the heart of our church, and weekly community worship sustains us as we seek to serve others through outreach, family and care.
